This place is a classic southern restaurant down to the country art on metal roofing material. The staff is very friendly. The portions are large... we can rarely eat all of the food. The hocakes are authentic.
Phenomenal southern cuisine just like grandma used to make! The portions are great and the staff is friendly. A standard selection of meats with a large array of sides to choose from. This has a cafeteria line feel with standard tables for seating. I got the fried chicken legs, black eyed peas, greens, and a ho cake. I also added a side of fried okra and sweet tea. It was so good and is now in my weekly rotation! Thank the heavens for good ole southern cookin!
Goolsby's has great soul food. Quick service but a little expensive. Highly recommend.
Wow. Goolsby's was mentioned during a conversation at work. I thought the only restaurant was in Evans, too far of a trek for lunch, but a store on Wrightsboro was doable. I set off to find it one evening after work and jackpot! There was so much on offer, I was flummoxed. The servers saw how conflicted I was in trying to narrow down my order and made suggestions, but my choice was a fish/shrimp combo that knocked my socks off. I ordered additional sides just to get a taste for them and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. The jumbo shrimp were plump and tender and the fish was flaky and still steaming after the drive home. I enjoyed cabbage, macaroni and cheese, but my favorite was the sweet potato souffle, filled with pecans! The store was clean, brightly lit and inviting. I especially noticed the condiment cabinet where everything from pickled peppers to cocktail sauce was available. I really appreciated that consideration. I'm gonna be back and hope to run into you there.
